The Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church was built on National Park Drive in 1948 and officially dedicated on February 12, 1949. The mission-style church, with its bell tower, red-tiled roof, and matching rectory, were built by the residents of Twentynine Palms. The Morongo Basin is full of history that I have been documenting since I got here. This church is across the street from the National Park Visitors Center. This area has several old buildings, including a one-room schoolhouse and an original home that is now an art gallery. I was in the visitor’s center for a meeting. I saw this church as I was leaving. I have seen it before, but it seemed to call to me on this day. I photographed it with my phone thinking I would use it for the Dailey Photo Game. The church is the same as it was when it was built, but around it is a messy tangle of telephone wires. I used a burr filter to diminish the look of the cables and keep the focus on the building. The cloud sat overhead as if it had found a comfortable place to hang out.
