Eliot Crowley “Triptych” 11/26/17

Preplanning is as important as improvisation. A friend once told me that if you have a water balloon in your hand you are looking for someone to throw it at, but if you have a camera in your hand you are looking for your next picture. Keeping a camera in your hand is key, then while looking for the next photo you might have to wait and see what will happen. I made this one at breakfast. I had my camera and was taken with the reflection on the glass of what was behind me. I made a few captures of the lines and shapes along with the reflection, but was not satisfied. The picture needed a human element to give that juxtaposition and curiosity of where are we for the viewer to figure out. So I waited… with camera at the ready. People would walk into the scene, snap. Waiting for just the right moment to push the button. Then a whole group crowded into my set. I snapped a few frames and waited. Everyone left except for this young beautiful woman, who seemed to be posing for me. With no direction she looked directly into my camera… snap. I was waiting for something like this to happen and I had preplanned it in my mind, all the while improvising the moment to capture this shot.
