It’s a funny thing we humans do, worshipping objects that become symbols that have meaning for us. This is a trio of icons not normally associated with each other. The first one is a several centuries-old French gilded painting of a beautiful woman praying. I am not up on who she is, a religious celebrity no doubt. I do appreciate the gold leafing and the realistic rendering of her with oils. Buddha is shown in a hip snowball atmosphere. To me, the “snow” is more like stardust. His teachings make him a global icon. It is only fitting that his likeness is etched out of laser light, which is super-focused, as are his thoughts. Ben Franklin on the $100 bill it is obviously meant to be a political statement on people who literally have made worshipping money a modern religion. Having grown up in Southern California, my spiritual icon is the sun. Being a photographer, one who writes with light, I am especially drawn to the unique light and space of the many diverse environments on Earth.
