I often get in my way when creating images to shoot or post; I overthink it. I made this image last night and had to pick a hero out of 50 choices. The one that works best is the one I know I am doubting my thought process. Also, the awareness that the viewer knows that I’m trying to be overly clever. But the contemplation of choices continues after the selection: color/B&W or just a few points of extra red to make it monochromatic?  Do I leave the structure detail alone even though the skin is too smooth when exported from the camera. This smoothness is different from what I see in the daily mirror. I need the viewer to see what I see: warts and self-doubt. Then, more dodging, burning, vignetting, and multiple layers of selective sharpening and blurring. All this has to be the definition of overthinking. Fortunately, all that processing is an enjoyable pastime.
