Walking away from a local marina one day, I spotted several boat reflections in the early morning glassy surface. Without giving it much thought, I captured a few and went on my way. When I revisited the group of files today, this one caught me eye. as I studied it more closely, I realized that if I flipped it vertically, moving what was the borrow of the frame to the top, the dock as well as the boat would be rendered ‘right side up’. I opened the image in Photoshop and indeed, when flipped, more of the ‘real world’ revealed itself. For many years, shooting 4×5 and 8×10 film cameras, I found myself under a ‘dark cloth’ in order to accomplish critical focus for hours on end. I chuckled to myself about the ‘flashback’ I was having and had this mini-epiphany: I was ‘reflecting’ on times from the past…re-living countless experiences as I studied this image of a reflection. I chose to title it ‘Reflecting’ as an homage to the verb, rather than use the noun as a tribute to my discovery. Apparently it does not take much to entertain this photographer on a day otherwise filled with Worship, Easter Eggs and creepy little creatures called ‘Peeps’.
