Over the Shoulder

Jeremy Green “Over the Shoulder” 11/08/18

The place looked vaguely familiar. After driving several hundred miles on 2-lane backroads, I pulled over to take a picture of a distant landscape. Google maps was my navigator. I had plunked in my ultimate destination with the filter “avoid highways” applied, and here I was on a road that I had apparently been on before while on a different long distance back-roads road trip a year or two before. Strangely, the points of origin and the destinations of the two trips were entirely different, so I was feeling a bit of deja vu. I had already pulled over and shot this landscape. I laughed and turned around, and this scene captured my attention. I felt compelled to capture this even more than the scene I had stopped to shoot. It’s amazing how many times the thing that’s over the shoulder turns out to be a more compelling picture than the one I planned to shoot.
