Robert Nease “The Descent” 10/24/18

Stairs are a passageway, be it to another floor or another place. This particular staircase proceeded from the ground floor to a lower level of a home that was built on a hillside. Appointed with modern touches of various exotic woods, flooring, and metal that contrasted against the clean white walls, all this became a great palette with which to play. My point of view from the landing was chosen for this image and intended to reveal a bit of tension. Going down a steep set of stairs is always a bit dicey as opposed to going up. A wide angle lens was selected to exaggerate the downward spiral and to diminish the size of the stairs. The round light has the feeling of floating in the large space and adds balance and depth to the room. Huge floor to ceiling windows on the lower level flood the room with soft afternoon light. The high ceilings of the lower room accentuates the forced perspective and it was fun to play with all the spacial relationships. In the final the color was detuned slightly only to give the image more of a graphic feel.

I definitely sense the tension because gravity has that effect on everything and everyone
Quite a tumble awaits anyone not paying attention

I read that as the moon at first. And can’t get that interpretation out of my head. I like how that disorients the scene, which has many twists and turns already.
