Watching people working as a team is usually quite interesting and if you pay attention one can learn a lot about the individuals involved in their  collective pursuit. Only a few minutes of inspection and you can figure out who is the person in charge and who are the other ones in the chain of command. My decision to crop in tight so only arms and legs were visible was a choice made after making several other captures for the purpose of  letting the workers become accustomed to my walking around the perimeter. My desire to distill the visual elements down to just the action and not the surrounding area was the main intend of my focus. Like gears in a cog these talented men worked on tirelessly in perfect synchronicity. Rarely talking much to one another, they moved as if they were one unit. The planned position of the camera angle was determined in anticipation of the back light of the sun giving texture and outlining the workers against the background. The color was worked a bit in post and then I achieved what I had envisioned earlier in the day. Later during break time while showing some of the guys the captures from the screen on the back of my camera, the crew mentioned that they had been working together for many years. This fact was very apparent to me as they knew how to “dance” on the job with one another.

Reminds me of an Art Deco Labor Mural from the 20s. Nice!
