This is a manufactured photograph. Well not completely. I did make the image of the boat stranded on the sand after a storm, but it really didn’t look this menacing. The three birds were added after the fact to give it a somewhat ominous feel. I keep captures of birds just for this purpose. These birds just happen to be vultures. The reason I like vultures is the feathers on the end of their wings really stand out and identify them as birds. Plus, they are a large bird. Post processing in Color Efex Pro gave it even more, what shall I call it, weirdness and a dangerous feeling. It demonstrates how color, contrast, and exposure can affect a photograph’s narrative interpretation. These are tools available to photographers. Knowing how to use them and when to employ them is the difference between a photographer and just some asshole with a camera.
