Blue Fier “The Blue Hour” 12/12/16

San Francisco’s Embarcadero and Pier 5 are like directional signals pointing towards the famed Pyramid building. The sky was grey and overcast earlier. “Don’t leave yet,” my brain ordered me. And sure enough, the skies cleared and the air was perfect for shooting the waterfront and accompanying buildings. I took a long exposure to smooth out the reflections on the water. Later I darkened the water reflections as I felt they were too bright as they pulled you away from the skyline.   The Blue Hour occurs when the rich golden light leads up to the sun setting. Light reaches the color temperature of tungsten or typically 3200 degrees Kelvin. Then the color temperature slowly shifts to blue and the light could measure upwards of 10,000 degrees Kelvin overhead. That beautiful midnight blue is magical as it serenely disappears to black. I wish I could bottle the blue.

“Time and Place” is Eliot Crowley’s reflection rich image. I chose to continue the reflection theme by playing my San Francisco waterfront photo I just took the day after Thanksgiving. How will Bob Stevens reflect or maybe deflect his play on my image.
