Photographing this unique window display took me on a journey not expected when I first set out to create this image. Selecting the time of day before hand for the optimal window reflections, I worked the South facing window displays first. While framing the image through my viewfinder and focusing on the eyes of the nicely dressed mannequin it came to my attention if the birds flying around her head would have been black…well to me she looked a bit like Tippi Hedren in Alfred Hitchcock’s movie “The Birds” and for a split second, (actually about 1/60th of a second), a creepy feeling came over me. A moment later the rushing sound of cars behind me brought me back to the sidewalk. When looking at a still image as opposed to a movie at usually around 24 frames a second, one has time to think and wonder on that single frame. To me the look on the mannequin was one of being “above the fray” everything above her mid arm is “Her World” and below is the reflection of the real world across the street. I wonder when everything seems to be coming at us from all directions during the day, if might be good to at least try to “Stay Above the Fray.”
