The nature of two dimensional art invariably involves a frame and it is nearly impossible to avoid. Whether it be canvas on stretcher bars, or the photographer’s viewfinder, the frame is ubiquitous. My image celebrates the frame and draws special attention to it, in this case, the frame within the frame. The use of tape is lifted from the previous game image and I was intrigued by its possibility as a design element to contain a view of my wood floor. This corner detail of inlaid wood has always caught my eye, the carpenter took special care to play with illusion by working with a change in direction of the wood grain. A shadowbox effect was created inside the tape and continues the illusion of dimension inside and outside of the frame. I liked this visual contradiction and the paradoxical play on the nature of frames. The image is representational, but abstract with a touch of surrealism thrown in for good measure. I like these types of images that confound the typical notion of what is a photograph. It reminds me of another image that I shot for the Game. All of these elements are combined to present a photograph that could not be found in any online photo library, it is a unique and personal vision, shot and shared specifically for the audience of the Daily Photo Game.
