Manhattan Refrigerating Company

These old brick streets, in the Meat Packing District of New York City, built over a hundred years ago are interesting. Just imagine the labor building them and the addition of this plate makes it even more interesting breaking up the pattern of bricks.  The early morning light enhance the texture of the rough surface. I always wondered what it was for, so doing a bit of research it is an access for the Manhattan Refrigerating Company, over 130 years ago, that kept the meat cool along with the fur storage among other cold storage items.  Today the Meat Packing is the cool night club scene repeating the cool factor over a hundred years later.
