For me visualizing what I would like to create is stimulating. Timing and patience both play a big roll in creating the reveal of an image when several variables are in play. Waiting for the light, for someone to be in position, for everything to “fall into place” is both frustrating and gratifying, but is one of the best parts of creating. Every seemingly small decision when added to the final display reaps rewards in the end. Earlier in the day the light was not raking across the brick wall as it is in this image. The timing of the person’s position in the frame along with their stride, I have to admit made me feel like a was herding cats. I had positioned myself, framed the image and waited to see whomever would walk into the scene. The staircase and railing contrasts against the brickwork creating a visual arrow pointing to the solitary silhouette. The fall off of the light towards the bottom of the frame anchors the image and helps keep the viewer’s eye within the scene. Any distance of the walker closer to the railing and the overhead light proved not to be as dramatic and the silhouette would not be as pronounced. This capture, one out of many is all I had planned and hoped for.
