Yin And Yang

Eliot Crowley “Yin And Yang” 04/05/18

My wife is preparing for a wedding shower for our niece. I was helping her move a table that had a carpet under it, when all of a sudden, this lizard appeared. At first it startled me because of the dark shape against our light wood floors, expecting it to run away slithering across the room. Then I realized it has been under that carpet for some time. It was flat and hard, perfectly preserved. Picking it up and looking for any reason not to move furniture, I claimed I must scan this reptile. That didn’t work. But eventually I did scan it, top and bottom. Each view had its charm straight out of the scanner. Putting the two views together I discovered this shape reminding me of the Yin and Yang symbol, I hope everyone is familiar with. The symbol represents the opposite perfectly composing a complimentary. Black and white halves fitting together to create the gestalt.   I have found and scanned many deceased animals. I find it an interesting study of the creature. Usually we see them alive and moving very fast, unable to get a really close look at their texture and patterns. To be able to freeze someone’s face and look at it closely for a long time, has always been one of the fascinating things about photography for me. In real life that would become uncomfortable for both sides.

Big E, not a big fan of the big copyright mark, but love your play. R

Thanks Russ. I know the copyright mark is in a bad place but it is there to protect it.
