Reflective, shiny objects have always drawn me in. Combined with repeating shapes, I’m a goner…I’m likely to photograph ‘that thing(s)’. I can’t help myself. I was on a photo safari yesterday in an unlikely place: Home Depot. ‘What?’ you say? This image maker loves the visual playground contained within every ‘Depot’ location. After roaming haphazardly, I turned down the Hardware aisle and came upon a bin of chain. Now that’s not something you find just anywhere, is it? I moved in closer and closer, with my trusty point and shoot (AKA iPhone) and entered the Macro mode. The tones felt a little lifeless so I took things one more step and turned on the flash. For a fellow who shot ‘shiny things’ for a living most of my career, it was ANATHEMA. In this curvy case however, the pointy, tiny light in my phone provided the zip I felt was missing. I shamelessly borrowed the title from you know where.
