I have been photographing this family of ranchers since I moved to the desert in 2009. Ranching, particularly in the Mojave, due to drought, environmental regulations, and physical demands, is a tricky business to run. What had once been a vibrant community of desert ranchers is essentially gone. There were seven ranches in the East Mojave; now, there is one. This photograph was taken during preparation for a family wedding. I was inside the house looking into the mirror when I saw the reflection of the Father and family members through the window. The wedding party was small and intimate. I was a guest, not the photographer, but they have always been so generous to let me document their lives. I am very honored.
