Context

Eliot Crowley “Context” 10/07/17

Out of context is a good way to abstract something. At first blush a viewer might ask why are all these people lying on the grass. A simple answer could be, it is a nice warm day and everyone has gone to the park. Another observer would notice these people are not in typical relaxation poses. Some of them are on their sides. They almost look like they are all dead. Further examination will reveal a couple of people smiling, so what actually is going on here? I have often wondered if a photographer took photos of people dressed up in Halloween costumes on the street, and then released them well away from October like in the spring. Depending on the actual costume it could look very strange when removed from the contextual timing. So, that is what this is. A bunch of people in the starting position for the Thriller (Michael Jackson) Dance. They all begin the routine lying on the ground, and then the music begins.
